Hello, there! I'm Dr. Louise Boothby, but you can call me Dr. Lou!
I'm proud to be the creator of Playtime 1-2-3™, a private practice coaching & professional development training services for professionals and parents in group & home settings with more than 35 years of experience.
With a strong background in special education, I have a passion for observing children, teaching how an understanding of child development & age-appropriate play experiences can fit into everyday routines & solve most social-emotional and challenging behaviors.

A former special education teacher, Dr. Boothby completed her Ph.D. in 1989 at The Florida State University (FSU) and worked at The Creative Pre-School in Tallahassee, Florida. Upon graduation she completed clinical/teaching appointments at the University of South Florida (USF) between the College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics and College of Education, Department of Special Education. She also directed the Children’s Medical Services Early Steps Program at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Dr. Lou also operates a private coaching and professional training business called Playtime 1-2-3™ for parents and caregivers who want to understand how developmental play fits into their busy schedules, fast-paced lives, and contributes to school readiness, and harmony at home and school.
Her new book called "Playing on the Porch" is a treasure trove of ideas, suggestions and guidance based on her work with families and caregivers. It clearly and helpfully demonstrates how different types of materials, and their attractive arrangement matters to children’s engagement, persistence in play, and success in later academics and formal school experiences.
Dr. Lou accepts contracts in the field of early childhood and special education as it relates to infants/toddlers, developmental screening, play and home visiting.
She resides in Sarasota, Florida with her extended family.
